Site Update - Golf Courses on Maui, Hawaii

We just added two golf course profiles for a couple of golf courses on Maui, Hawaii.

The Kaanapali Golf Course - North Course is the first 18-hole course constructed on Maui. The Tournament North Course, opened its lush fairways in 1962 and is one of only two Hawaii golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

Arnold Palmer called the 449-yard par-4 18th at this Maui golf course one of the best and most challenging finishing holes he'd ever played.

The Kaanapali Golf Course - South Course is a shot-makers course, the tight fairways and smaller greens of Kaanapali's Resort South Course demand accuracy off the tee and on approach shots.

When you plan your next Hawaii golf vacation, make sure to play these two golf courses on Maui, Hawaii.

Don't forget about your chance to tee it up with Fuzzy Zoeller and take a shot at one million dollars. Qualifying for the first contest ends August 1, 2005.

Callaway - To Sell or Not To Sell

Callaway Golf Co. might have new ownership according to the company in a statement released Thursday.

There have been rumors of a purchase along with an increase in stock prices in the past few months.

Now it looks like the rumors are true.

According to a release from the AP and Ronald Beard the lead independent director, "We feel that this is an opportune time to explore a full range of strategic alternatives that could enhance shareholder value."

Callaway reps also state that it has, "has received unsolicited indications of interest from various parties from time to time" and "no firm offers have been made, no substantive discussions are currently under way, and neither the board nor the senior management team has reached any decisions regarding the preferred strategic direction for the company."

One thing is for sure. Callaway Golf is searching for a new CEO to help right the ship after this past year's bad business mistakes.

Enjoy your weekend.

New Greens for Myrtle Beach Golf Courses

Golfers coming to Myrtle Beach late summer and early fall will get a chance to play brand new greens at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club and Long Bay Club.

Both golf courses are closed now through late August for renovations. These renovations include changing the greens over to ultradwarf Champions Bermudagrass.

This type of grass is more shade tolerant, heals quickly, is dormant in the winter and has to be overseeded.

When Caledonia reopens, golfers will also notice upgrades to the cart paths and bag drops.

Long Bay will also make improvements to its bunkers and irrigation systems.

Awards for Myrtle Beach Golf Courses and New Golf Bag Lines

The weekend is almost here. Get out and golf!

In the latest issue of Carolina Living, the "Official Guide To Relocation & Retirement" for North Carolina and South Carolina, the magazine praised a couple of Myrtle Beach area golf courses and communities.

We recently told you about the new Nick Price designed members -only course at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach. Now, the public course at Grande Dunes is once again winning an award.

Carolina Living just named the 449-yard, Par 4, tenth hole at Grande Dunes Golf Club as one of the most spectacular holes in the Carolinas.

Find out more about the 7618, Par 72, Grande Dunes Golf Club.

Another award went to Ocean Ridge Plantation in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. The magazine named Ocean Ridge one of North Carolina's best communities.

Why?

A big factor has to be the community's three award-winning golf courses; Tiger's Eye, Lion's Paw and Panther's Run. A fourth course is on the way as well.

Get contact, rate, and address information on all Grand Strand area golf courses at our Myrtle Beach golf listings page.

We also wanted to let you know that our preferred partner GolfTravelBags.com just added product lines from Sun Mountain, OGIO and Burton Golf.

Here's a quote from a recent press release.

Nick Price Design Opens in Myrtle Beach

Visit www.GrandeDunes.com before its too late.

"Too late for what?" you ask.

Before all memberships to this new private Myrtle Beach golf course sell out.

The new course, designed by Nick Price and Craig Schreiner, and the first-class 27,000 square-foot clubhouse opened on June 4th.

This is the only Nick Price-designed golf course along the North Carolina and South Carolina Coast.

“"Nick Price and Craig Schreiner have created a true members club golf course," said Mike Buccerone, General Manager at the Members Club at Grande Dunes. "The course is skillfully crafted to provide an interesting variety of challenges while, at the same time, allowing it to reward members who play it frequently and can learn how to best manage its rolling fairways and subtle, sloping greens."

Members will find many distinctive features added to the new, Par 71, golf course.

The sand traps contain the same sand found at Augusta National.

The wide, TifSport Bermuda, fairways on the front nine are lined with cross-cut trees and resembles a classic, parkland style, course design.

The back nine combines both links and parkland styles and blends nicely into the natural surroundings.

Members also enjoy the option of playing with their own full-service caddies.

Both memberships and home sites are limited at the new Grande Dunes membership-only golf course and club. The even-more limited sites along the Intercoastal Waterway are sure to sell out at an even faster pace.

Read more about this new Myrlte Beach members-only luxury development and the origonal first-class resort course at www.GrandeDunes.com.

Trump Comes Up Short

Just read an entertaining article about the booming luxury residential high-rise condo market in Las Vegas.

It seems Ivana Trump, Donald's ex, is putting her name on what was once The Summit Las Vegas. This luxury condo building will now be called The Ivana.

Here's what's got to really get under Donald Trump's skin. The Ivana is the tallest residential condo building in Las Vegas standing 73 stories high.

On the other hand, Donald Trump's new Las Vegas project, Trump International Hotel and Tower, will only stand 64 stories high.

Wonder if the Vegas line-setters have set an over/under on how soon Donald Trump makes a change to his building's design. We wouldn't put it past him to add 10 more stories to his new project.

Don't forget Father's Day is just around the corner. Why not pick up Dad some new golf gear.

Our preferred partner, GolfSmith, has tons of great golf equipment and offers free shipping. Plus, you can now pick yourself up a FREE $50 GIFT CARD when you get Dad some new gear.

Don't procrastinate any longer. Get your Father's Day gift online at GolfSmith today and you can spend the time you save on the golf course.

Golfers - Tips for Surviving the Busy Summer Travel Months

Most experts believe this will be the busiest summer for travel in the past six years. Here are four quick tips to help ensure you make it to your golf destination a little easier.

1) Book Early Morning Flights - You'll find smaller crowds at the airports and your flight will not be delayed by late-afternoon thunderstorms.

2) Use Your Cell Phone - If your flight is delayed, call the airline's 800 number while waiting in line at the ticket counter. You might reach an agent faster on the phone than in person.

3) Make Your Luggage Stand Out - Set your luggage apart from others with bright tags or by writing, "You Da Man" with bright markers on your bag. You'll differentiate your bags from others and speed up your departure from the airport luggage areas.

4) Keep Your Property Safe - Lock all checked bags to keep them from opening during transport. Visit www.tsa.gov for a list of Transportation Security Administration-approved locks.

Prepare yourself for stressful travels. Try to relax. Just remember the perfect golf vacation waits for your at your final destination.

Don't forget to protect your golf clugs during your travels. GolfTravelBags.com provides the best selection, services, and prices on all your golf travel bag needs.
